Title: Only You Can Save Mankind
Author: googlebrat
Fandom:Stargate
Rating:PG-13
Genre: Gen AU
Pairings: Uh, mild implied Carson/Perna
Spoilers (if applicable): None, I don't think
Warnings: Moderate violence, minor bad language, minor character death
Summary: They called them the Wraith, ghosts that walked and brought death on their hands, and no country objected when their brightest and best children were demanded in order to prepare to fight the alien menace.

Disclaimer: Stargate isn't mine, and there are some Ender's Game inspirations in there. And title comes from Pratchett, 'cause it just seemed to fit.

Dear Kat,

So, I got you to sign up for [community profile] apocalyptothon. And I got [personal profile] perryvic and a couple of others to sign up for it to, and if I expected to land up with anyone's I thought it'd be the Vicky's.

But I got yours. I flailed. Vicky snickered. Lysa laughed and said I was doomed forever. Tizzy bounced up and down at the thought of a custom-made apocalypse JUST FOR KAT.

I.. had an idea. Which vanished after a night when I had a dream about McKay in an Ender's-Game type verse (which I wasn't sure you had read, but hey) and I started writing, and the beast grew, and after a while it wasn't really that either.

Somewhere, it stopped being a fic, and turned into a series. Not even that, it turned into a season - complete, 12 eps, intro, epilogue, three part finale. I knew I was lost when fic-plotting discussions began to start with previously on stargate God help me. And every time you complained you were bored we laughed and laughed and said not for long!

So, uh. [personal profile] perryvic beta'd and helped me with plot discussion and threatened to send me to rehab for italic addiction. [personal profile] tzi beta'd some more. [profile] hearsawho laughed at me, and explained that there are some places in the world, like Colorado, where SEA IS NOWHERE NEAR (for a Brit this is hard). [personal profile] caladria helped with SG-1 bits (which I needed, frequently). [profile] cinead just generally helped out, among other things feeding me a fake fic plot to give you when I panicked (I nearly told you I was writing about giant ant invasion. SO NEARLY).

I writed you a fic. And they beta'd it.

And if we didn't quite make it to the line in convincing you I wasn't writing for you, considering how certain I was that you could actually pick information out of my brain, we came damn close.

Love Laura
