Bring On The Clowns!
I voted in my local council by-election this morning. And on the way home from college, standing in the next council by-election for the Monster Raving Loony Party started seeming a) feasible, and b) a good idea.
Now, Kat and Vicky are of the opinion that this is the drugs talking (actually, Vicky is making humouring-Laura noises, and I'm pretty sure Kat is just collecting blackmail material for when I'm off the ibuprofen) but when you think of it, this really IS a good idea.
See, when I voted at my polling station? Only about 20 people had voted before me. And this was at LUNCH TIME, people. Admittedly, a lot of people will go after work, and also admittedly, they really confused the dates on this one (had I not grabbed the Lib Dem guy yesterday, I would not have realised it was today) but STILL, that's pretty sad.
I would rather people protest-voted for me than voted for BNP or didn't vote. You don't have to pay to stand in council elections - I'd just need to pay for leaflets. I could deliver them weekends and after work, and recruit random people to stay with me and help deliver. (UKERS? YOU'D COME, RIGHT? JUST FOR A WEEKEND?)
I could make awesome leaflets, with policies like having a zipline into Newcastle (Look, it's more environmentally friendly than a car, and it's not like they'll ever give us public transport). And there could be balloons. And possibly clown suits. And it would improve turnout, and also be awesome.
